GRAVEWURM – Blood of the Pentagram

Gravewurm have been on the go for almost 20 years, churning out demos and more split albums than you can shake a stick at. “Blood of the Pentagram” is their sixth full-length release, a crawling chaos of black doom tinged with sludge. While the songs are generally slow and dirty, there are moments of brightness where the tempo increases slightly and the riffs start to rock a little. Track ten, “Two Coins for Charon” is probably the stand out piece thanks to a hypnotic riff and the addition of a keyboard, but even that falls well short of the mark. Overall I think these guys need a bit more energy and emotion, originality and focus if they want to impress and I don’t think the fact that this is the best they can do after 20 years on the go is very encouraging.
