ARMAGEDDA – I Am

If the rumours are true, then by the time you read this, Armagedda have split up and the "I Am" EP represents their final offering. Hailing from Sweden, Armagedda were in existence for roughly a decade and noted for the inclusion of Eric from Watain (on drums!) back in the early days.
"I Am" consists of 4 ‘lost’ tracks dating back from 2001 – 2002. The music certainly sounds like it was written back 10 years ago, but not in a bad way. There is a good mix of fast and slow tracks, with plenty of atmosphere, old-school charm and a production that complements the balanced approach of the EP well. Title track "I Am" is a slower number and really demonstrates Armagedda’s talents to the full, building up to a powerful, aggressive climax which is the highlight of the record.
Elsewhere, there is plenty of good quality, accessible BM on offer. The only niggle I had with this release is that I thought some of the riffs could have been stronger. I suppose this problem is magnified by the repetitive nature of BM; when songs rely on so few riffs, they’ve got to be dynamite or the whole thing is on danger of falling on its face! Still, this is a short but enjoyable release and I will be interested checking out their full-length output if I come across it.
