DESTRUCTION – Spiritual Genocide

DESTRUCTION – Spiritual Genocide

Destruction should not need any introduction to the seasoned metal head. This German giant have produced (now) classics since their inception back in the early 80’s and even they did not deliver the goods at all when Schmier was out of the cut some years back in the 90’s they have always been a force to be reckoned. Along with Kreator and Sodom they put Germany seriously on the metal map back in the day. Me personally have not followed them that closely the last 10 years or so but I always find time for some "Eternal Devastation" or "Release from Agony" now and then. Their latest release "Spiritual Genocide" is their twelfth studio release and I am little disappointed.  The formula is as ever but the melodies seems rushed and missing the essential hooks Destruction has spoiled us with in the past. The vocal is as always on par and Schmier voice is truly a classic these days.  The songs just passes on without any spectacular parts and after a couple of spins, "Spiritual Genocide"  still sounds like one long song. There are of course many interesting parts/arrangements here and there but overall it lacks the truly awesomeness that Destruction albums have managed to pull out of the hat back in the days. The production is crystal clear and the technicality of the material is top notch from that nerdy point of view. Schmier & Co does nothing spectacular or memoriable on "Spiritual Genocide" and this is for the die-hard Destruction fans only. The rest of us takes a dive into their back catalogue for some real genuine teutonic thrash metal.
