NECROPHAGIST – Oslo – Inferno 2010 – John Dee

Remember Faith No More sang «From Out Of Nowhere»? That was kinda what it was like with Necrophagist. Another Relapse Records success story, certainly…but, they just seemed to appear. Bad luck was close behind in the form of missed tours and missed opportunities.
Still this Muhammed bloke fought on. It is hard to judge just where they stand these days but tonight they are the downstairs (John Dee) headliners on the final night of 2010'a Inferno.
Technical Death Metal? OK. Overly technical? Not really. They do lack the punch and bite of, for example, a Behemoth in their prime. They do lack the attitude and devil may care approach of a Destroyer 666. However, give a dog a bone and you have bestiality – give Necrophagist a killer sound and mix and you have quite the show. Their Hole In The Sky appearance was this, tonight they don't have the Gods quite as onside but it is more than enough to let the sonic attack draw attention away from the absence of onstage dramatics. Pretty good to really good, that pretty much hits the nail on the head.
