LACRIMA MORTIS – Posthumous

LACRIMA MORTIS – Posthumous

Although this nine-track effort by the Brazilian horde known as Lacrima Mortis showed up in my mailbox last week, the album was released back in late May 2020, so given that it is not exactly newsworthy as such we shall keep things short here. These guys deliver potent and well-composed doom metal with muscular riffs, dark vocals, utterly gloomy melodies, and a deeply morose atmosphere. It is not altogether that different to what Saturnus, November’s Doom, Mournful Congregation, and My Dying Bride do.

They vary the pace too and throw in plenty of cool twists and turns that often take the music in an interesting direction. The warm, organic sound of the record is appealing and if you want a glimpse of what Lacrima Mortis offer, you might want to check the bleak, hauntingly beautiful ode to sadness that is “The Ruins of Desolation” out. Powerful stuff.
