KRATHERION – Mantra Lucifer Flagelantes

The Chilean black metal machinery known as Kratherion has unleashed a rather chaotic, brutal, and ugly album in the shape of «Mantra Lucifer Flagelantes», which contains 9 blasphemous and Christ-desecrating hymns. There is hardly anything new or original to what the members of Kratherion do, but nevertheless I must say that they do what they do quite well. Some of the riffs and the slightly bombastic parts remind me of Temple of Baal while some of the fast-paced parts and passages remind me of Marduk. For the most part, the riffs and melodies are catchy while the aggressive vocals come across as quite convincing and dark. The thrash and death metal elements also add a nice touch as well as diversity to the whole thing. In the overall perspective, the album has a raw and insane feel to it that appeals to me in a slightly perverted kind of way, but the songs are actually quite well-written and nicely arranged. Make no mistake about that. «Mantra Lucifer Flagelantes» is solid and catchy black metal that ought to appeal to most of you underground freaks and human accidents out there.
