One of those unsung East Coast metal bands, Hades have continually come up in a lot of European circles for their pioneering spirit for heavy power metal in the 80’s. Yet another re-issue of their debut album “Resisting Success” assaults the marketplace, with 5 remixes and bonus tracks added on to the original 9 song slate. Alan Tecchio’s high pitch heroics and Dan Lorenzo’s steady stream of riff action keep songs like “On To Iliad” and “Sweet Revenge” on head shaking, fist flying red alert (as well as Alan’s tongue twisting wordsmith ability for the latter).
“Gloomy Sunday” and “Easy Way Out” go back to their debut 1983 demo, showcasing their early Kiss, Maiden and Priest influence bag. “Sledgehammer Press” appears with Scott LePage playing this older song from their second demo, a guitar solo filled instrumental salvo with some neat harmonics throughout.
Every few years these first two Hades albums seem to reappear – due to band (and fan) demand. Appreciate the passion behind the music, accept the 80’s production standards and know Hades ignite the power of metal within us all.
