Urgehal have kept the engine going since 1992 but kept under the radar for most of its active years. Finally alot of people have realized another gem is out there and they deserve all the attention they can get. It is also great they stick to what they do best, no compromise to get more publicity.
Latest addition to an already well filled catalouge is the EP "Death is Complete". Another two-track EP where you are presented with aggressiv, gritty, primitive, old-school Black Metal. I am all for this style of music, but after listening to it for a very long time i am still unsure what to think of it. Don’t get me wrong, its not bad, but still not completly convinced; my attention has not been captured. Both tracks feel like a result of a jam-session in the studio. Many EP’s released as limited editions are obscure releases meant for the hardcore fanbase; this checks all boxes. Not that others can’t appreciate it, but, you get my point i assume.
A band that takes two steps back to re-explore the old days can result in a fantastic record and i very much look forward to their next album. Because their albums are fantastic and it has gotten better over the years, no doubt. If you have not given the band a listen you should or you miss out of many gems.
