NECROTTED – Die For Something Worthwhile

NECROTTED – Die For Something Worthwhile

Blistering and aggressive death metal with a mad touch of grind and deathcore to it is what the German sickos known as Necrotted offer and this 4-track EP of theirs is a lethal slab of brutality that is as concise as it is in your face.

Starting off with the gut-punching title track, the four deadly pieces that constitute “Die For Something Worthwhile” keep up the momentum and retain a crushing sense of intensity all the the way through. Granted, the EP is only thirteen minutes long, but I am impressed by how catchy and memorable these songs are while simultaneously being so full of nasty twists and wicked turns that will make your head spin. In other words, these cuts are more or less instantly memorable and yet they contain plenty of technical finesse and character too. The musicianship is strong and that goes for the hard-hitting production as well. I do miss a little more variety and insanity with respect to the vocals as they seem slightly predictable and even borderline mundane in a handful of places, but all in all, they get the job done and in a convincing manner too. The high point of this release is arguably the album closer entitled “Weltschmerz”, which possesses a great groove and an interesting song arrangement.

If loud, punchy, and pummeling death metal capable of killing your next-door neighbor sounds like something that might appeal to you, then by all means check “Die For Something Worthwhile” out. Despite its lack of originality, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this one and it is not that far removed from what cool acts such as Dying Fetus, (latter-day) Decapitated, and Fulgora are doing.
