This 11-track album by the alternative hard rockers from the US known as 10 Years was released via Mascot Records a few weeks ago and weaves different elements relating to classic rock, hard rock, grunge, and even a dash of progressive metal together.

 

As interesting and cool as that may sound, the sad fact is that "(How to Live) As Ghosts" is an unremarkable and easily forgotten affair. These guys are undoubtedly competent musicians and there is nothing wrong with the production or anything like that, but while some of the songs are quite easy on the ear and contain decent hooks and whatnot, the album as a whole is just not enough to spark any kind of excitement or interest on my part. One has heard this way too many times before and there is nothing on "(How to Live) As Ghosts" that truly stands out or makes me sit up and take notice.

 

The record never really takes off, which is to say that the tunes never reach any sort of climax and the drama as well as those huge anthemic choruses that I was hoping for are lacking. Still, there are some interesting ideas to be found on the disc and some of the material is promising, but ultimately the album is neither as infectious nor as riveting as one could have hoped for. A tad too generic and uninspired, unfortunately.
