MOS GENERATOR – Abyssinia

Stoner rock from Washington, the power trio Mos Generator lock and load on addictive hooks, bluesy riffs, and emotionally charged melodies for this full-length "Abyssinia". Hints of Nirvana come up on opener "Strangest Times", while "Red Canyons" pulsates through a Sabbath-esque bass line that reverberates against the cascading drum groove and thick electric riffs. Together since 2000, the three-piece share a similar philosophy and execution style, churning power chords and introspective transitions to set up the next swinging passage for aural excitement and immersion.
The closing 6:02 "Outlander" contains soothing organ strains and a reflective, soothing vocal melody line to boot – proving Mos Generator can be equally intoxicating on the ballad side. Given my first exposure to the band, it won’t be my last- it’s time to catch up on this group’s discography for certain.
