EXTREME NOISE TERROR – Extreme Noise Terror

I have always been into the punk/hardcore/grind scene and over the years have made many attempts to get into ENT’s vibe. I have never been successful in this endeavour. The overall sound, the vocals, the aesthetic and mostly the inability to write a good song have put me off.

And so I return once again to see if things have changed. In a word, the answer is no. The first problem is Dean Jones poxy cookie monster vocals. They have never been good and this is no exception. New vocalist Ben McGraw makes a favourable impression on those rare occasions where he makes it out of the mix, but to be honest, I’d be 100% happier listening to him in The Rotted than here and it pisses me off that his talents are going to waste. Next up is, once again, the inability to crank out a decent tune. If after nearly 30 years of chancing their arses, this is the best ENT can produce, they should be taking a long hard look at themselves. Then we come to the sound. There are actually a few good riffs on here and you might occasionally think ‘Maybe this one can climb out of the bucket’ but oh no wait – here come the vocals again to drown everything out.

Absolutely no variety, no grasp of song dynamics and an approach that sees every slightly good idea strangled in the mix. Avoid.
