CHILDREN OF BODOM – Halo Of Blood

The Finnish melodic death metal troop continue to roll out their brand of catchy songs and spirited keyboard/guitar runs on this latest 10 song platter "Halo of Blood". Expect some faster blasting than normal for the title cut, a mighty death groove with the appropriate neo-classical keyboard touch with "Bodom Blue Moon" and the odd ‘ballad’ number with "Dead Man’s Hand on You" that is better left in the hands of Tiamat or Moonspell. Do not fear, there is plenty of head bobbing, riff excitement in the classic CoB mold with "Damaged Beyond Repair" and the mid-tempo anthem "Scream for Silence" two of their better efforts.
"Halo of Blood" will probably be referred to as a reverting to the past effort in the catalog, but at this point Children Of Bodom don’t really have to answer to anyone for the direction they go in- the fans will determine with their wallets where they place their support. As such this is a good but not outstanding album.
