Death metal mastodon Hate from Poland had an early slot at this year Inferno Festival. Adam The First Sinner & Company entered Rockefeller about 1945 this thursday evening but suprisingly (in contrast with earlier years) there was an impressive amount of people present. Hate´s rumbeling death metal may be compared to fellow countrymen Behemoth. They have been going strong since the early 90´s but have not gained the recognition Behemoth has so far.
Personally I have not given Hate much play time lately so I was looking forward to hear if they could convince me back in their fold live. The first thing that needed to be adjusted was the sound. I was located right next to the soundbooth but I could hardly hear the vocal or the second guitar. Hate play not melodic death metal but they sure do have some memorable riffs but they could hardly be heard in the wall of bass/drum sound. After a couple of songs the volume was adjusted some and both the vocal and guitars became more prominent in the mix.
Main man Adam have an pretty good voice and it was nice to actually hear it.
After about 7 songs Hate said thank you and both I and the crowd could conclude that Hate deserves that you give them a try. I, for one will sure give them more play time from now on.
