NUCLEAR STRIKES – Megastorm Eyes

Malaysian metal? This country never factored on my radar screen for metal in general- especially a band like Nuclear Strikes who dig deep into the well of 80’s heavy influences for this 6 song EP "Megastorm Eyes". Forming in 2005 and surviving a few member changes in their early years, the quintet possesses one of the better pure female metal singers I’ve heard in recent times. Steelgirl Ladyana has early Lee Aaron meets Barbara Malteze with the confidence of "Thundersteel" era Riot or the self-titled Fifth Angel debut.
"Last Savior" is a fine mid-tempo anthem featuring a strong guitar hook from guitarists 1,2 Kill and Rex Strike while the closing high notes from Steelgirl should send shivers down any metal head’s spine. The follow up "Memoir of a Friend" contains a slower, clean intro and as a power ballad will evoke memories of 220 Volt or Queensryche. If you can move past the primitive production values and dig into the compositions themselves, you’ll see that Nuclear Strikes love what they do and explore the rarities usually reserved for extensive coverage in Sentinel Steel mail order or Snakepit magazine.
The promo photos have all the right poses down, the logo is worthy of copying onto your paper bag covers you had to use to protect your textbooks, and above all else the songs bring out the devil’s horns- what more could you want? A perfect act to grace metal festivals like Keep It True, Swordbrothers, even Warriors Of Metal stateside- Nuclear Strikes would be wise to keep exploring their love of obscure 80’s traditional metal/ hard rock artists, as this is killer.
