JORDSJUK – Råtner på Rot

I bought the very first tune that Jordsjuk released digitally a while back, namely the fierce and vicious ‘Stein til Byrden’, and I have eagerly followed their online activity ever since and also ended up purchasing the ‘Siste Skanse’ track, which was yet another frighteningly convincing slab of groove-laden black metal. This upcoming debut EP of theirs consisting of the aforementioned two gems as well as ‘Viva la Apokalypse’ and the title track is a furious and intense experience that conjures up a bone-chilling vibe while simultaneously assaulting the listener with one muscular and catchy riff after another – very much like some of the classics from the eighties and nineties did but without sounding dated or like a mere throwback to the days of old. Something about this gut-piercing piece of work makes it sound fresh, perversely invigorating, and morbidly entertaining, and that is not merely due to the strength of the riffs and vocals or the effective nature of the song material in terms of how memorable it is; the lyrics are also fucking excellent and the whole blackened affair comes across as so overwhelmingly determined and to the point that it defies common sense. No wonder Jordsjuk have managed to stand out and make a name for themselves in such a short span of time. This could be next big thing, and you know what? Råtner på Rot actually is a pretty big deal from my perspective and leaves most other metal outfits bleeding in the ditch. An essential listen and a mandatory purchase for fans of Tulus, Koldbrann, Khold, and quality black metal in general.
