BJØRN RIIS – A Fleeting Glimpse

What a lovely surprise this beautifully crafted 4-track EP by the ridiculously talented Bjørn Riis (Airbag) is. It seems like only yesterday that he released the near-flawless Everything to Everyone opus, so I did not see A Fleeting Glimpse coming. Musically and stylistically speaking, these four new and sparkling compositions are undoubtedly closer in spirit to Pink Floyd than pretty much anything else that Bjørn has done over the years, but in no way does it rehash old ideas or come across as derivative. Bright, vibrant, and bristling with creativity, the whole thing feels fresh and inspired, and the melodies are as heartfelt and exceptionally good as ever. With its crisp yet harm sound that truly enhances and underlines the dynamics and subtle textures of the music, I simply cannot think of anything that would make all you awesome lovers of atmospheric prog rock out here not fall in love with this stately piece of work. Former Pink Floyd backing vocalist Durga McBroom graces the song ‘Dark Shadows (Part 1)’ with her heavenly voice, but more than anything this is Bjørn Riis firing on all cylinders and delivering tunes with emotional pull and substance to them.
