HELL IN THE CLUB – Hell of Fame

The Italian hard rockers/heavy metallers known as Hell in the Club have been rather prolific over the years and this brand new 2020 offering of theirs entitled “Hell of Fame” is the fifth full-length assault in merely nine years. Not bad, eh? Apart from being a productive bunch these skilled musicians quite clearly know how to churn out energetic and catchy tunes with a prevalent sense of enthusiasm to them, but unfortunately, this is one of those discs that is devoid of substance and depth, which is to say that after three or four spins it basically loses its charm and one grows tired of it. They know exactly what to do in order to entertain the listener the first few times around, and as I said before these are talented musicians, but everything quickly turns old here.
The production contains power and punch, the songs “Joker” and “Mr. Grouch” are ridiculously easy on the ear and instantly memorable, and one could easily see this record appealing to fans of everything from Motley Crüe to Rob Zombie and further on to The Darkness and perhaps even Wolfmother (and to a lesser extent The Wildhearts and Andrew W.K also), but in the long run the entire affair is just too damn forgettable. Fun to a certain extent but sadly not one for the history books.
