ONIRICOUS – La Maldición

This vile and nasty 6-track mini LP/CD by the Spanish death metal warmongers known as Oniricous turned out to be a really wicked surprise in that it offers well-written, memorable, and hugely atmospheric tunes that hearken back to the glory days of the aforementioned genre.
With an emphasis on raw brutality and a truly sinister aura, these guys tear through their song material in an utterly convincing manner and effortlessly evoke a sense of something most unholy and unpleasant. As rumbling and aggressive as it is, “La Maldición” is also dynamic and possesses a great flow. Quite a few thrash metal influences also rear their ugly heads and the unpolished yet crushing production fits like a glove.
Although there is nothing original to Oniricous or this lethal slab of grotesque metal of theirs, it is just so damn catchy and driven (not to mention highly solid from start to finish) that it deserves to be devoured in full by all you lovers of Morbid Angel, Deicide, Incantation, and Massacre out there. Or in other words; this is some great stuff indeed, and if death metal with a horror-filled vibe to it sounds appealing to you then make sure you grab a copy of “La Maldición”. Standout track: the dark and pummeling title song.
