INFERNO – Gnosis Kardias (of Transcension and Involution)
Gnosis is the 7th full length from Czech BM act Inferno. This time around Inferno continue to explore the boundaries of modern BM, reaching for an introspective, nightmarish type of discordant psychedelica to complement their more aggressive side. This type of thing has been attempted by many BM and Post BM acts over the last few years, but so few have actually managed to pull it off convincingly. Thanks to more than 20 year’s experience, Inferno know exactly what they are doing and have really managed to deliver.
Gnosis has all of that dark and wrathful energy we expect from a BM album; all of the blasting and scorching violence. Inferno are excellent on the breakdown too, and their slower more traditional passages really hit the spot. On top of all that though, is a kind of off-kilter mesmerising blend of lonely keys and hanging notes that add immeasurably to the atmosphere and to each song’s sense of melodic and psychological narrative. Just to say it again – such a miniscule number of acts manage to weld classic BM elements to progressive and ‘post’ approaches this expertly and to such devastating effect. Because of this, Gnosis works as a record you can dip into and enjoy in short bursts and (even better) as a full epic journey through the burnt and blasted psyches of its creators.
