Bergen Rock City, here we go again… So, how to kickstart a 4 day festival? Read and learn.
Day one and Garage downtown Bergen is the place to be. Doors already open when I arrive, small crowd, but pretty much as expected when first band kicks off at 18:00. Hadens get the honour of starting Blastfest 2016, never ever heard these guys before, but they sure get the party started, straight forward black & roll, job well done. Onwards! (into battle) The crowd is slowly increasing, still no problem at the bar, and all smiles around, happy days. Endezzma up next, and behind all the fuzz and makeup there is acctually a gem to be found. Sound? Well, theres a little Dimmu Borgir, a little Kampfar, and then a little Watain, not sure how to explain, I might be wrong, so how about damn good? Definatly a positive surprise, and a band I will get back to after the festival, and so should you. Alright, time for Blodhemn. Well, not bad, but not really good either. The party is getting better and better, lots of nice people and cold beer, and that might be the reason for my rather careless impression. The guys up front of the stage seems to enjoy the music, and theres nothing wrong with the performance, so I might be wrong. Anyway, moving forward! Voluspaa gets my attention, you can not go wrong when you show up with a pretty girl playing the violin. The same violin follows the vocals here and there, great stuff, catchy and facinating, and without a doubt one more band to check out after the festival. The venue is more or less packed, and Svartjern can do nothing wrong pleasing the crowds thirst for metal. Full black metal attack, and Im not the only one headbanging throughout Svartjerns set. Sognametal next, welcome Mistur! I absolutly love this kind of music, I had an issue with the change of vocalist some time ago, but no more, this is just great music performed by talented and skillfull musicians, undoubtly the best performance of the night. How to end a great evening? Ladies and gentlemen, I give you… Chrome Division! Man these guys know how to ROCK! I dont play Chrome Division very often at home ( but, yes, of course I have the albums), but live? Fan fucking tastic! Professional guys with a bad boy attitude all over, great tunes and great sound, hell yeah! So, as I stumble into the night trying to find my hotel, I have a BIG smile on my face, looking forward to the next 3 days of music and mayhem, job well done BLASTFEST!
