Vår growlende reporter Sigve fikk smaken på den nye skiva til det svenske death metal bandet SANCTIFICATION og sendte kjapt over noen spørsmål som bandets ene gitarist Tomas Elofsson besvarte ganske så kjapt.
First off… congratulations on the new record!
Thanx! About fucking time, huh?
Would you please introduce us to Sanctification? Who are the different members and what do you do in the band?
Masse Broberg – Vocal, Tomas Elofsson – Guitar, Marcus Edvardsson – Guitar, Andreas Mellkvist – Bass and Jan Benkwitz – Drums.
Would you please compare for us "Misanthropic Salvation" with "Black Reign"? EG. Where do you see the similarities and where do you see the differences?
Black Reign is more dynamic and easy listened than Misanthropic Salvation. On MS it was all about playing fast and making the songs short and intense rather than giving the songs some dynamic and groovy riffs that Black Reign has. The songs on Black Reign is more thought thru and have all the elements a death metal album should have in our opinion.
Would you please describe the creative process that lies behind making a song with Sanctification? Eg. Who writes the music and who writes the lyrics…?
I usually write the music at my home studio and when I think its done I send the song to the other guys so that they can have their opinion and say what needs to be fixed. When everybody is happy with the music Kristoffer or in this case Masse will start with the lyrics. When everything is done we make a pre production of the songs. The final touches are made during the final rehearsals before we enter the studio.
How is the Swedish metal scene in 2009 compared to 10 years ago?
It's hard to say but from my own point of view it is stronger than ever. The old bands like In Flames, Hypocrisy, Grave and Entombed are holding their own as usual. They are playing bigger and bigger shows and the tours that they are doing are just insanely huge! I think metal all over the world are getting the attention that it deserves.
Where do you seek your inspiration for making music? Musical influences? Other influences (than music)?
All kinds of music. Everything from Grave to Vader; to trance and techno. Good music is always good music and it doesn't matter what genre it is, at least not for me.
What lies ahead for Sanctification? Any plans you would like to share with us?
We are at the moment looking for tours, so if anyone needs support for their tour, just contact us at once! We are also writing new songs as we speak. We have to stay productive as we don't have any tours at the moment, so writing music is something that works for usJ.
If you could choose any three bands, past and present, to share the stage with, who would be your choice and why?
Slipknot, coz they are so fucking intense live. Metallica, The band from -86. Jonny Cash: don't have to explain that one.
Norway is known for its Black Metal scene, but do you know of any Death Metal bands from Norway?
Zyklon is one of my favorite bands; Bloodthorn and Chton are also great bands. You guys have some of the best extreme metal around so you have a lot to be proved of.
What is your favorite sitcom on television, and why?
Married with children! Al Bundy is the shit! But I also like Two and a half men, that one is just plain sick. Can't explain why but for you who hasn't seen it, you just have to check it out.
Thanks for your timeJ any last words?
Thank you to Sigve. I hope that we will share the same stage pretty soon, which would be fun as hell. And make sure to check out our video for the song "Storm" on YouTube, and buy the album so that I can buy my self a new bike.
