THE KILLERHERTZ – A Killer Anthem

Forming a couple of years ago this Danish quartet perform in a melodic hard rock/ metal mold that has instant hook and harmony appeal on their debut album "A Killer Anthem". You’ll get 11 songs containing a lot of 90’s era Megadeth and Metallica leanings along with a little bit of that stoner hard rock grit and determination that has made Mustasch a fervent favorite through the years. Guitarist Thomas Pedersn doubles up on vocals, and he prefers a mid-range James Hetfield meets a twinge of Glenn Danzig resonating through his comfortable pipes.
Catchy material like the low tuned anthem "The Fall" sits side by side with twin guitar laden energetic numbers such as "Feeding the Damned" and semi-punk "Youth Inc.", proving the KillerHertz aren’t stuck in one particular frame of mind and know how to switch things up to make a dynamic full length. A key to success for this band lies in the rhythm section of bassist Rune Gregersen and drummer Kent Rasmussen – the little things mean so much in a song, be it the right accent on a fill or choice of root chord to sustain the groove (the case proven throughout "Shine a Light").
Forging this act on friendship, The KillerHertz could have a healthy future as they seem to have a great platform from which to build upon. Seasoning through live shows could develop this material even further, as I can see even stronger, more imaginative melodic vocal hooks carrying these songs to possible Volbeat heights given the right exposure. "Rebelheart" and "Swansong" crush me through their addictive riffing and steady tempos, and as a result "A Killer Anthem" will make a frequent return to my playlist when I need that punch in the gut.
