GALLOWS POLE – Waiting For The Mothership

Psychedelic cover art, old school atmospheric hard rock from this Austrian five piece on “Waiting For The Mothership”. The prolonged, slow building guitar solo within “Return To Paradise” lives in the Saxon meets Michael Schenker mold. Alois Martin Binder possesses one of the more atmospheric voices, almost like an older Johan Edlund of Tiamat in sort of doom/gothic speak tone through the outer experiential title cut. The rhythm section keeps the four to the floor AC/DC philosophy at hand, but I’m not very impressed with the dull snare drum tone throughout these 8 songs.
Almost 30 years in the album realm, Gallows Pole probably speaks more to the ardent Austrian hard rock follower as I felt the material was lifeless and better suited for the new age crowd.
