PYRRHON – An Excellent Servant But A Terrible Master

Four piece death metal act from New York City who aren’t altogether sane on this debut album. Expect dissonant feedback against blast beats, outer world screams against growls, and perspective that makes Pyrrhon love Gorguts, Immolation and Sonic Youth all the same. Songs like “Parasite” and “Flesh Isolation Chamber” aren’t touchy feely efforts that set off the light bulb in the brain – they truly penetrate or ooze in one part of the body and through multiple exposures become something more substantial , as most left of center underground music is prone to do.
Drummer Alex Cohen knows how to keep the Meshuggah poly-rhythms at a controllable level- as he loves Voivod’s Away just as much based on hearing his work in “”Glossolalian” and “Correcting A Mistake”. The subway circuit better take heed – “An Excellent Servant But A Terrible Master” will scare tourists and natural born citizens alike. Primitive guitar squeals, appropriate but not obvious breakdowns – Pyrrhon have crafted an album that will be talked about in death circles.
