Darkly atmospheric yet playful and eclectic, the seven compositions that make up Hypnagogia are as unpredictable as they are forward-thinking, and there are constantly a myriad of different layers and elements in motion throughout that bring some truly exciting nuances and colors to the fore. For instance, why does it feel as if the opening track titled ‘Thanatosis’ takes us into a strange and surreal world of neo-noir and conjures up a suitably hypnotic vibe to complement that vivid and prominent image in one’s mind? That kind of thing takes some proper skill to achieve – something that these guys are obviously quite firmly in possession of. Things range from smooth and soothing to intense and aggressive, and everything moves effortlessly from one part to the next, which means that there is such cohesion and flow to the whole affair that it beggars belief. This is obviously testament to just how well-composed and elegantly arranged this LP truly is.
