CODE – Lost Signal – Remixes

The unpredictable geniuses from the UK known as CODE are responsible for some of the most innovative, bone-chilling, and musically adventurous releases these past few decades, and given that 2022 marks their 20^th anniversary, they have unearthed and uploaded some wicked gems from their archives for all the fans to enjoy via Bandcamp, one of which is Lost Signal – Remixes.

As phenomenal as the original versions are, these three remixes are utterly delightful company and highlight different aspects of the song material that turn the EP into a refreshing and fascinating listening experience. ‘Inland Sea’ is slightly rougher around the edges thanks to the more prominent (and distorted) guitars, and this piece is probably the standout track since it differs quite a bit from its original counterpart. ‘On Blinding Larks’ and ‘The Lazarus Cord’ sound brighter and more vibrant here, and to these ears, there are subtle nuances and textures that are more upfront and present in the mix compared to earlier on, which is merely another way of stating that this sparkling and deeply atmospheric slice of bleak post-rock is fucking awesome and worth checking out – regardless of whether you are a CODE devotee or not.
