The kick-ass hard rock outfit that is Black Swan is undoubtedly one of the best and most musically rewarding projects/bands on the Frontier Records roster. While the group’s debut offering, “Shake the World” (2020), was an impressive piece of work, their sophomore effort is even better and shows depth, character, and finesse not to mention that it contains some delightfully meaty and riveting songs. With Reb Beach (Whitesnake) on guitar, Robin McAuley (Michael Schenker Fest) on vocals, Jeff Pilson (ex-Dio, ex-Foreigner) on bass, and Matt Starr (ex-Mr. Big, ex-Joe Lynn Turner, ex-Ace Frehley) on drums, it should come as no surprise that this is one of those great-sounding, sharp, and well-written albums where the riffs are excellent, the melodies are instantly appealing, the rhythm section is powerful, and the whole thing simply leaves you wanting for more. It may not be original as such but it sure is brilliantly crafted and Pilson’s production leaves nothing to be desired in terms of being crunchy and hard-hitting.
“Generation Mind” is a deftly executed opus that fans and lovers of hard rock and melodic heavy metal ought to check out as these veterans sure know what it means to write memorable and atmospheric tunes. Should you need a couple of teasers, check “She Hides Behind”, “Miracle”, “Eagles Fly”, and the swirling, majestic “Crown” out. Heaps of quality stuff for you to sink your teeth into here, folks.
