KHEMMIS – Absolution
Denver, Colorado’s Khemmis have been active since 2012, releasing a self-titled EP a year later to set up this debut full-length "Absolution". Rare is the day when a doom/stoner oriented metal act emphasizes the doom over the stoner sides, but this is the case for this quartet. Large riffs, booming bass, twin harmonies, snail-like drumming, and melodic vocals makes "Serpentine" and the swinging "Burden of Sin" incessant, addictive headbangers.
As much as the band love their Sabbath, you can also hear twinges of Clutch, Celtic Frost, Red Fang, Thin Lizzy, and even High on Fire in their pacing, passion, and musical interplay. Wrenching out the last bead of sweat on lead breaks for the nine minute epic closer "The Bereaved", by the time these 6 songs end in 42 minutes, you will be transformed to the good.
Khemmis is one to watch for certain.
