SIMUS – Vox Vult

SIMUS – Vox Vult

Italian act Simus perform an ethereal, abstract brand of progressive metal on their second album "Vox Vult". In other words, this isn’t going to technically wow you like a Dream Theater or Fates Warning would – the quintet subscribing to more of a slower, jam-oriented approach from an alternative perspective. Tool, Mastadon, Jane’s Addiction, and System of a Down matter most when taking in the bass heavy crawling title track, hypnotic and isolative "Bitter Taste" and rhythmic tribal-oriented "Requiem For My Moon".

Simus may slither into the recesses of your mind, their sound lurking in the shadows and striking out when least expected. Possibly a touch too modern at times in terms of the post-metal vocals or certain riff choices, "Vox Vult" does showcase proper musical muscle and integrity, something to watch for on future efforts.
