AOV – Act of Violence

Modern thrash metal with a small amount of extreme vocals- this is the Finnish band AOV and on their debut album "Act of Violence" roll out 9 tracks + a short intro of Slayer meets The Haunted style thrash while vocally possessing more of a growling meets Phil Anselmo-style voice over anything inherently melodic. The lead breaks are frantic, the drumming occasionally blasting, and overall this isn’t for the meek or mild. The tough guy roars wear thin by track four "Surrounded by Concrete", and reaches irritant levels on the closing title cut.
Pluses include actually hearing a rumbling bass amidst the wall of guitars and a drummer who can maintain a groove while kicking it up a few notches in up tempo thrash and blasting death. Entertaining enough I suppose, there’s just something about the combination of sounds that doesn’t hit me enough for a full on recommendation.
