ACRANIA – Totalitarian Dystopia

Acrania is a brutal deathcore outfit in the vein of All Shall Perish without the spectacular melodic passages. This one sentence could serve as review proper were it not for the sputtering profanity that makes me want to skip tracks with a quickness and then point that out in my review like so. And I know this is deathcore and All Shall Perish had their own share of verbal "raisins" but the so called constant "intermissions" between "sit the" and "down" or "shut the" and "up" are so unnecessary, to say nothing of failure to serve their intended purpose: make the totalitarian masters sound really evil. They don’t sound evil, they merely sound rude and inconsiderate. Remember Hannibal Lecter? That guy never cussed but he sure was evil!
As for the music, because, it is, after all, what matters the most not my self-righteous diatribes regarding lyrics, the music is average. Yes, there are some riffs here and there that I would call creative and fresh and the production is great, all of which is reflected in the score, but Acrania’s music seems to have been written somewhere between "Hate.Malice.Revenge" "The Price of Existence", "Awaken The Dreamers" and "This Is Where It Ends"…by All Shall Perish. So Acrania can learn more from ASP than just to emulate their style. They can learn that righteous indignation at the rulers and the bankers is not enough to create a compelling brutal deathcore album. You need good songs even a casual deathcore fan can distinguish one from another. And that’s something Acrania will hopefully be able to impress with on the next album.
