After 3 self-released EP’s and a single, we finally get the debut album from Danish death/thrash metal act Aphyxion with "Earth Entangled". I don’t know if I would really consider this classic death metal, as the vocals of Michael Vahl along with some of the down tuned riffing and similar grooves could be more so in the Lamb of God meets Hatesphere category than anything Entombed or Cannibal Corpse like. Jacob Hansen capably gives "The Deterioration", neck snappy "Despicable", and the stop/start dynamic groove monster "The New Breed" a killer sonic sense flood, so all is not lost amid aggression.
Aphyxion have played over 100 shows before the age of 20 – so hope is still there for them to develop their own sound. At this point, the 10 song "Earth Entangled" doesn’t have enough specialness in terms of melodic hooks or killer song construction to stand above the masses.
