UNAUSSPRECLICHEN KULTEN – Baphomet, Pan, Shub-Niggurath

Some Chilean death metal up next with the third full-length from Unausspreclichen Kulten. Rather than the raw and bestial sound you might expect, these guys come up with something a bit more sophisticated and surprising, even if it does have both feet firmly planted in the early 90’s. For a start, the band gets bonus points from me for their love of the Cthulhu Mythos. But what about the music? A good mix of slow and fast, and all constructed to create a feeling of cosmic doom and crawling terror we know and revere HP Lovecraft for. At times the technicality reminds me of Pestilence, although the sound is heavier than that, with the South American feel. Incantation comparisons will be made too, but so what? If it is good, it is good.
