GETAWAY ROCK FESTIVAL 2013

GETAWAY ROCK FESTIVAL ble arrangert for første gangen i 2010 og allerede da som en tre-dagers festival. Juli var utvalgt måned de tre første årene, men i år er gildet flyttet til august. Lokasjonen for GETAWAY ROCK FESTIVAL er i Gävle på den svenske østkysten. Det går tog og buss til/fra Gävle både nordover og sørover til hhv Sundsvall og Stockholm og det er godt med hotell- og campingtilbud i byen. Det er tre scener (to utescener og en mindre scene innendørs).

Det har vært i overkant av 60 band hvert år siden starten i 2010 og i skrivende stund er 59 band klare for årets festival.

IN FLAMES, SYSTEM OF A DOWN og DEEP PURPLE er headlinere under årets festival, men her er det flust av godbiter for de fleste. Vi nevner i fleng LAMB OF GOD, TESTAMENT, TRIVIUM, HATEBREED, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, BEHEMOTH, WITHIN TEMPTATION, NICKE BORG HOMELAND, ANVIL, GAMMA RAY, KATATONIA, GOJIRA, EXODUS, ELECTRIC WIZARD, ICED EARTH, HYPOCRISY, SOILWORK, SATOR og ENTOMBED.

Norske innslag har det vært noe få av hvert år, men i år er det kun BLOOD COMMAND som skal representere Norge.

 

Getaway is a festival which this year will be held for the fourth time and they have a very impressive lineup. What is it that makes a relatively young festival like Getaway to have so many well-known bands like you do this year?

They all happen to be on tour in the period of the Getaway Rock Festival and of course a lot of good relations to agents and a good sense of which acts to book.

Proper booking is the essence for any festival. What is the most important thing you think of when bands are booked?

To get a good headliners and for Getaway Rock a good mix of various kind of Metal / Hard Rock acts to attract a broad audience from 15 to 65 years.

Some festivals have obviously missed on their booking and it has ended with poor ticket sales and at worst bankrupcy. Peace and Love is one of those and they had to cancel this summer. Is this something you think of when you book a band?

Of course, due to the heavy competition with more festivals than the market can hold it is essential to really "be on the case" and book acts that are attractive for the festival goers.

How many people do you hope will come on to this year’s Getaway? What is the capacity?

Due to the size of the site the capacity is limited to 15.000 and we do hope to sell out.

How is the influx of foreign visitors? Is there a lot of foreigners who come to Getaway?

Except for Scandinavia not a lot, as we do know about, but we do have some few travelling very far from South America, South Korea etc.

A festival of Getaways size will necessarily also have an impact on several other participants in the community in Gävle. How is the will to co-operate?

It is always essential to have a good co-operation with the municipality, in this case they also owns the site and we do have a long term contract. This year we also started a co-operation with the new local hard rock association "Gävle Hard Rock Association" for local promotion and they also take care of the Meet & Greet tent on site and they have also choosen some of the local acts. Local suppliers and neighbor companies are also positive even if they do not like the music they do state: "It´s good that something happens in Gävle"

Getaway has grown into a very big festival in a very short time. This means that the number of staff and volunteers must be huge. How is the willingness of people to help carry the festival?

The site quite small and is easy to work at with fences and other facilities that does not need to be brought in which means that we can keep the number of staff and volunteers quite low. With the third stage (black) being in one of the old gasometers there are only the two outdoor stages that has to be built

It is becoming more and more common to have a so-called "metal market" at festivals. What can Getaway offer their festival participants of stands, stalls etc?

I guess we have the normal "metal market" traders. We also have a mechanical "bull ride" and a photo boot where you can get Getaway branded photos of yourself for free. For the first time the visitors will also be able to walk around with a beer without, the for Sweden traditional compounds, just as at Sweden Rock and Bråvalla Festival.

There are an enormous number of large well-known bands that will play at this year’s festival. Which of the bookings are you most pleased with?

Which of the bands on the bill is the one or ones you personally look most forward seeing on stage?

System Of A Down and Electric Wizard

Is there anything else we should know about Getaway 2013?
