Quite by chance I happened to stumble on this self-released demo by the American death metal four-piece named Masada, which features Crucifier main-man Cazz "The Black Lourde of Crucifixion" Grant on vocals, and I figured that I`d write a short review of it since it deserves to be heard by all you old-school death metal freaks out there.
"Suffer Mental Decay" is a 2-song demo consisting of the title track and "Toxic Reality". Masada performs old-school death metal with thrash metal undertones. The riffs are all pretty simple and catchy. The bass is fairly audible and offers up some pretty wicked melodies in places. The sound and production is quite raw and unpolished, but this doesn`t mean that the music isn`t powerful or heavy, because it most certainly is. Also, the songs are structured rather well and it doesn`t sound like the band just put together a bunch of random riffs and called it a song.
You can download "Suffer Mental Decay" for free via Masada`s Bandcamp profile, so there is no excuse for not checking this out if you`re into this type of music. The more I listen to it the more I like it.
