DEVIL – Time To Repent

Norway’s Devil move into the label ranks with this debut 8 song full length. Doom metal with a small side of stoner rock is their method of musical execution, and I’ll look at the 6 other songs not already heard by these ears as 2 songs appear on the previously reviewed “Magister Mundi Xum” demo of 2010. There’s a lot of Trouble and Black Sabbath in the riffing and rhythm parts of songs like “Break The Curse” and “Crazy Woman” – but once again the weak, whiny voice of Joakim Trangsrud brings Devil dangerously close to comedy proportions.
Expect a raw, barely above rehearsal level production quality (drummer Ronni Østli hardly can be heard in the distance) and a quintet not ready to really move beyond their previous demo level beginnings. Others in the press world seem to love them, to me it’s average in delivery at best.
