IN SOLITUDE – The World. The Flesh. The Devil

Be frightened. Be aware. Sweden’s In Solitude come from a place of occult heavy metal, the twin guitars burning the airwaves and a vocalist in Pelle “Hornper” Ahman that summons the classic Mercyful Fate years, yet with more sustain and less operatic shrieking. The Maidenisms come bursting through on a track like “We Were Never Here”, the Gottfrid Ahman bass propelling the Henrik Palm/ Niklas Lindstrom dual guitar harmonies and twisted, turning riff parts while drummer Uno Bruniusson keeps the double bass and snare snaps with epic rolls in a classic Omen-like manner.
Kudos to Metal Blade for remembering that despite any current trend or niche selling like gangbusters, the true essence of heavy metal will never die. In Solitude will make it so – and I so feel like I’m 13 again every time I hear “The World. The Flesh. The Devil.”
