RAMESSESS – Take The Curse

As far as sludge doom goes, this struck me as pretty average. The production is purposefully horrible with a far away feel to it, for the lack of a better description. The band is supposedly known for their excruciating punch, which of course is misleading. In their own genre perhaps this is heavy riffing, but compared to the slower riffs of Pantera for instance, this sounds like the result of a marriage between grunge and death. The music sometimes reminds me of older Entombed, played at less than half tempo. All of these things I could have lived with though, if the riffs had been more memorable, if the melodies had not been so similar and had the music not been so repetitive.
