DOBBELTGJENGER – The Twins

Nobody out there writes eclectic, exciting, and irresistible rock songs quite like Dobbeltgjenger do. Explorative and quirky, adventurous and groovy, charming and perfectly funky, these Norwegian gentlemen do not disappoint on their third album, and the way in which their compositions weave so many different threads together is impressive and admirable. The first three tracks on the disc pack an unbelievable amount of punch and contain so many textures and effective vocal hooks that it is impossible not to swept away by the sheer energy, enthusiasm, and innovative spirit that course through them. The Twins is catchy yet challenging, and the more layers and nuances you decipher each time you listen to it, the more startling and phenomenal it will all seem to you. Only the closing cut, ‘Done’, leaves something to be desired in that it feels anticlimactic and somewhat lackluster by the act’s usual standards.

Dobbeltgjenger have never sounded as experimental and unpredictable as this before, and it demands more from its listeners than its two predecessors did, but the vigorous and edgy-sounding opus is totally worth the extra time and effort. Simply put, I am loving The Twins, and the lyrics alone make it an essential purchase. Rock music with a huge twist that pops like a fucking cork.
