LAND OF GYPSIES – Land of Gypsies

Arising from the ashes of the band known as Gang of Souls comes the sparkling new act named Land of Gypsies and this skilled outfit deliver a good, solid dose of classic hard rock inspired by early Whitesnake, Bad Company, Foreigner, and to a lesser extent the mighty Led Zeppelin.

Consisting of eleven songs and boasting a warm and crunchy sound, these talented musicians evoke a feeling of a bygone age, and those bluesy, melancholy undertones of their material are quite appealing and akin to pure ear candy. The compositions are dynamic, and the groovy affair lacks neither focus nor conviction. On top of that, the vocals are superb and fit like a glove, the guitars are loud and possess grit, and in general I just dig the organic feel of the record. There is a lot to enjoy here, and Land of Gypsies’ self-titled offering is an interesting and memorable one that may not be original but which packs a punch and serves up a great display of 70s-inspired rock music that somehow also manages to look to the future in a subtle manner. Actually, I am looking forward to the follow-up already.
