STORMGREY – DNA of Chaos

STORMGREY – DNA of Chaos

A potent mixture of death metal and thrash metal is what we have here and this Lithuanian act deliver an old-school blow to the skull by means of pummeling riffs, bone-crushing passages, and utterly dark vocals. With their style being firmly rooted in old-school metal and boasting a nicely organic sound, "DNA of Chaos" looks to the past in a certain sense and it is hardly surprising that there is not a shred of innovation or originality to what they do, but they pull the whole thing off in style. Also, with such a huge amount of determination and grim swagger coursing through the record, it is simply impossible not to get excited about their dynamic tunes and the enticingly claustrophobic aura of the malicious and ugly fucker.

Again, there is nothing new or revolutionary for you to discover here, but I had a pretty fucking good time listening to this sharp, aggressive, and oftentimes groovy slab of vicious underground metal, and there is a sick charm to it that is undeniable. Apart from the compositions being solid and entertaining they are also sufficiently varied to keep the listener engaged and focused from beginning to end, and while it may lack some truly monumental or wildly majestic songs, there is no filler material present on the disc. Yet another quality release from Great Dane Records and one that the death/thrash fanatics out there ought to pick up on. Should you need a teaser, check either the unhinged "Womb of Darkness" or the crushing, morbid hymn that is "Poisoned Light" out.
