DRAEAM CHILD – Until Death Do We Meet Again

Craig Goldy’s latest musical endeavor named Dream Child boasts a stellar line-up that speaks for itself (Rudy Sarzo on bass, Simon Wright on drums, Wayne Findlay on guitars and keyboards, and the talented vocalist Diego Valdez). This 12-track record of theirs sounds like a mixture of "Dream Evil" and "Magica" by DIO, "Perfect Strangers" by Deep Purple, and "Long Live Rock ‘n’ Roll" and "Stranger in Us All" by the almighty Rainbow. In other words, we are talking classic heavy metal and hard rock in the vein of some of the greatest acts known to man.

The first six songs on the album are strong and muscular pieces that sound great and conjure up just the right atmosphere for this particular brand of music. Tracks such as "Games of Shadows", "It Is What It Is", and "Light of the Dark" are wonderfully moody and mysterious, and they are undoubtedly the real highlights here. The remaining half of the disc is certainly not bad, but it is uneven and lacks truly powerful and memorable tunes. Goldy’s melodic and charismatic playing is always a treat to listen to and Valdez does a really good job with respect to the vocals, but the album lacks that organic and magical band feel. Still, the positives outweigh the negatives and it is worth devoting some time and energy to as it does rule in places (i.e. the first half of the album), but a heavy rock masterpiece this is not.
