The Glaswegian purveyors of heavy, emotionally charged, and occasionally brooding alt. rock sporting the appropriate moniker Those Made Broken are a most enticing and rewarding musical proposition, and judging by the overall quality of this muscular-sounding effort, this writer needs to check their entire discography out asap.

A Door You Can Never Close boasts infinitely more crunch, power, emotive lyrics, and liveliness than most other alt. rock albums out there, and I simply adore its organic aura, the way in which the words and vocal melodies speak to both the heart and mind, and not least that its compositions consist of equal amounts of intuition, spontaneity, unfiltered rawness, and inspired passion. Some of the most pressing and urgent matters relating to the human condition and our surrounding world are tackled and commented on, and the group’s unique knack for making the lyrics, riffs, and song arrangements complement each to such an impressive extent recalls Soundgarden at their very best and most potent. There are layers and textures present here that will compel you to return to the record again and again, and its subtle coat of darkness moves the soul. Some tracks are better than others but not a single one of them is naff.

If you desire massive-sounding modern rock that is sharp, memorable, and frightenedly relevant, look no further than this focused and enjoyable output. Fingers crossed that they will tour mainland Europe in 2026/2027.
