AZZIARD – Vésanie

"Vésanie" is the second full-lenth onslaught by the French horde known as Azziard who performs an intense mixture of hateful black metal and brutal death metal. While parallels to bands such as Marduk, Temple of Baal, 1349, and Behemoth can definitely be drawn, I also sense some of that orthodox French black metal sickness in the music of Azziard, mostly due to some of the rather harsh and dissonant riffing that is scattered throughout the album. The songs are generally founded on heavy double bass drums, sinister and relentless riffs, grim vocals, and morbid breakdowns. There is nothing new or original to what these guys do, but I cannot deny that "Vésanie" does contain its fair share of moments and that the band comes off sounding pretty convincing and hard-hitting. The speed and aggression mixed with the slower and strangely dynamic parts as well as the suitably punchy and yet raw production appeal to me, and I see no reason why it shouldn’t appeal to you as well!
