DECEPTIC – The Artifact

Modern melodic progressive metal. Combining the use of dj-ent rhythms, good cop/ bad cop vocals, high guitar melodies, and a semi-progressive tempo template, Deceptic on "The Artifact" roll through 10 quick hitting cuts that should produce monumental body spasms in 40 minutes. Periphery, Mnemic, Soilwork, and even commercial artists like Paramore come into play here – "Heart of the Swarm", the emotive maze-like "Lead Astray", and appropriately titled "Smorgasbord of Shame" are three highlights.
If you do not like down tuned riffs and a strong emphasis on riff/groove syncopation, Deceptic will not be your band. Somehow though, these Swedes entertain me to no end, and have a good hold on this cross-pollination platform- so the future possibilities look bright. Drummer Dennis Svensson could be a future percussion spotlight person, as he joyfully slams his kit on "Reborn" and "A World Unknown" like the best younger drummers in the business – all business here.
Another European band to keep your eyes and ears on.
