DEATH – The Sound of Perseverance (Reissue)

This is in my opinion the best technical death metal album ever released. There are more ingenious riffs on this album than most bands come up with in their entire career. There are no bad tracks and the instrumental performance is pristine from start to end.
This album is of course a 6 on the dice as far as content goes, but since this is a reissue review I have deducted half a point. Firstly, the sound isn’t improved too much. It’s audible on the solos, but not so much on the rest of the album. Secondly, the bonus material consisting of demo material I couldn’t care less about.
Since the sound was good on the original album this reissue is mostly for collectors. But if you don’t have this album in your collection… SHAME ON YOU! This album belongs in any serious metal collection. It is an intelligent, innovative and intense masterpiece from the first to the last note. I have no favorite tracks since they are all good, but the opening track “Scavenger of Human Sorrow” possibly has the most awesome metal album opening in history.
Ps: The cover version of Judas Priests “Painkiller” should give any metal lover tears of joy. Even if the original of course is best, this version will knock your stinking metal socks off.
