For more than three decades, Einherjer have stood as one of the most steadfast acts within Norwegian Viking metal, proven by their faithful audience and great feedback received by their live presence and releases. The Haugesund veterans have consistently found ways to evolve without losing sight of their roots. If the advance material is any indication, their upcoming release, Lifeblood appears set to continue that tradition. The album is set to be out June 19th via By Norse Music.
If you’d like some insights into the album from Gerhard himself, we have recently conducted an interview with him and here’s what he told us about the composition process, about the band’s hiatus and other interesting details from the band’s history: https://eternal-terror.com/2026/06/06/einherjer-interview/
Regarding Lifeblood: the first single, “Bloodborn”, immediately establishes the album’s thematic foundation, with its heavy riffs, commanding vocal lines and the unmistakable sense of Nordic grandeur that has always defined Einherjer, the track balances aggression with atmosphere in the band’s familiar way. And it proves how comfortable the band is with the level and identity they have achieved and which hasn’t been diminished by any silence.
According to the band, Lifeblood revolves around themes of heritage, belonging and continuity. These are subjects that have long been woven into Einherjer’s artistic DNA, but this time they seem to be approached from a more personal perspective. Rather than merely retelling historical narratives, the material appears concerned with how the past continues to shape the present and it takes way more listens to be able to try to fully figure out what might lie behind the lyrics or well, deep down inside them.
Production-wise, as other Einherjer releases have combined clarity with power, there was little reason to expect anything different here and the whole listening endeavor is pleasantly rewarded with each of the album’s eight songs.
What is perhaps most impressive is how relevant Einherjer remain after all these years. Many bands celebrating a tenth album would be content to revisit former glories. Instead, Lifeblood looks poised to reaffirm why Einherjer have remained one of the defining voices of Norse metal. And any of their upcoming live appearances will be received with cheers and high spirits and we’re all looking forward to hearing how the fresh songs blend in with the ‘classics’.
