DEAMONOLITH – The Monolithic Cult of Death

Leave it to Godz ov War to unearth some of the most captivating underground acts and releases and bring them to light – a case in point being this incredibly dynamic and consistently interesting 35-minute output by Deamonolith, which is as unearthly and disquieting as they come.

Blackened death metal with an experimental vibe and lots of textures to it might be one way of labeling this passionate piece of work, and there is a concept and a theme to the music and lyrics, which entails that everything is tied together rather neatly here. Musical variety is clearly something that this Polish entity is well-versed in and has a firm grasp of how to incorporate into their muscular material, and I absolutely love the foreboding aura that simmers underneath the track. Raging like a violent tempest one minute only to shift gears and deliver some terrific melodic leads on top of a slow, brooding riff or evoke a string of eerie piano notes that will send shivers down your spine, The Monolithic Cult of Death is nothing if not diverse and constantly delivers a sense of sinister drama that plays out beautifully during the course of the entire song. The whole affair looks, sounds, and feels utterly apocalyptic in a strangely profound sense, and there is a depth to the record that somehow manages to scare the living shit out of me while also appealing to each destructive instinct within, which speaks volumes about how much charisma this blackened sliver of doom-laden brilliance truly possesses. The production is fantastic too in that it carries a certain warmth and bombast while also bringing all the hidden layers and subtle elements to the forefront, so lack of definition, punch, or sheer raw power is neither an issue nor a problem here. Frankly speaking, I am surprised that you are still reading this when in fact you should be glued to your fucking speakers right now, immersing yourself fully in this phenomenal sonic manifestation of cosmic nihilism and the death of the human spirit. This is some strong and potent stuff indeed.
