Introduce your band, and describe your latest release:
My name is michael webster, I’m a singer-songwriter based here in Manchester and my latest release is my EP “a northern perspective”! It’s an alternative-folk collection of tracks, written from my experiences in the world.
What’s the hardest part about being a band in this day and age?
I think realistically it’s trying to balance everything! There’s so much to do, like recording, writing, production, gigs, promotion – there’s so much you can always be doing. It’s difficult to find the time sometimes!
When did you realise that your project had the potential to be much more than just a fun idea?
I started writing songs back in like, 2012? I just knew that it was what I loved doing, and making music with other people is always great fun. It’s been a journey, but it’s been lovely!
Tell us about your latest release, why should we check it out?
“a northern perspective” discusses a variety of topics, including romance, politics, self-improvement, realising your self-worth – it’s a collection of songs from my mid 20’s that show the reality of living in today’s society. I produced it all myself, and I’m very proud of it. Every song has a personality, an atmosphere that works for each track – it’s a real expression of myself.
How does a song typically come together for you?
I usually start with a guitar pattern, be it chords, riffs; and then I just try and write lyrics to it. A lot of songs come relatively easily nowadays – it’s nice to be able to focus when I need to and create something!
How would you describe your sound to an unfamiliar reader?
Alternative-folk, folk-grunge, Northern, gritty – a lot of ways to describe my music.
What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your band?
I think if someone can really connect to your music, then that’s the best thing you can do!
Where would you really like to tour that you haven’t done so yet, and why?
I’d love to head to Australia. It’s got a really lovely music scene, so much talent, so many supportive people – it’s great to see.
How would you say that the sound of your band has progressed over the years?
I’ve definitely found the balance between folk music and alternative rock. I listen to both and used to find it difficult to find the right level of each!
How excited are you for 2025, and what can fans expect from you?
I’ve got a bunch in the works! A load of new tracks, hoping to get them recorded and finished soon, I’m recording with other people, making music – plus lots and lots of gigs! You can find them all on my label’s site at www.breadrecords.co.uk 🙂
